Death
October 1, 2023, 12:00 AM

The wages of sin is death.

Yet, our generation says “cool, let me try.”  Satan has done an amazing marketing campaign for death.  Death decorates our t-shirts, cars, tattoos, even our baby onesies. We entertain ourselves with death. We watch, listen to, and read horror films, detective stories, crime stories, ghost stories, fantasy. We sing about death, rape, killing and the sins that bring death. We advocate for the death of the unborn, elderly, mentally ill and really anyone who wants to “go to a better place”.

Death is something to be celebrated and embraced. It is cool to laugh at death. At the same time, we ignore that death is real. We no longer have funerals. Rather, we call it a “celebration of life.” We do not go to the church building where we will be reminded of God and meeting Him after death. We meet at parks, homes and bars where we have a picnic, drink a beer and say “he/she is in a better place”.

Satan is very good at marketing.

Liquid Death is a drink with a thoroughly planned marketing campaign.  Let’s just look at the imagery for a moment. Join my analytical brain and analyze all the details and messaging of this product.  What feeling does it want you to have? What do the colors infer? Look at the font? What images do you see impended on the packaging?

There is no age requirement to buy this drink. It is harmless. There is no alcohol. It is harmless. It has clever names such as Mango Chainsaw, Severed Lime, Berry it Alive. Liquid Death is naturally caffeinated, has zero sugar and zero calories, and is made with pure, natural ingredients like carbonated water, citric acid, and natural flavorings.  It is harmless. The water used in Liquid Death is 100% mountain water sourced from hundreds of feet deep below rock, and contains naturally occurring minerals and electrolytes.  It is harmless

And whether you believe me or not, the message we are receiving is death is harmless. Death isn’t the end. Death is fun and exciting. You are big enough to deal with death. Death is no big deal.

The search results for this product are interesting. “Our store is packed with so much wicked merch that the brick and mortar version melted. Turn your body into a shrine to Liquid Death today.”

The messages are that murder is okay and wickedness is positive. It tells us to “turn your body into a shrine.” Can our bodies be a shrine? I thought what we put on our bodies was just our choice and had nothing to do with spiritual things. I was told that when God said “be ye holy as I am holy” it didn’t pertain to the outside because it is what is on the inside, the heart that counts.

Genesis 3:4

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

Death, that isn’t what is going to happen.  You weren’t given all the facts.  I know what is really going to happen.  This is the message that we are being sold. Ye shall not surely die.  We find death interesting. Fascinating. But it isn’t going to affect us. We aren’t like others that died. We aren’t going to do that wicked thing, so we won’t die. We can just taste it.

Satan is good at marketing.

Sure, it says Liquid Death. But you aren’t really going to die.

Genesis 3:5

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Death is actually a good thing. It is a lot of fun. You are wiser if you choose death.  I know more than that preacher; nothing is going to happen if I do what he warns against. There is no real harm. Nothing is going to cause permanent damage.  We understand that these things aren’t harmful. We know it was a different time when they made all those rules. It’s okay now because we are wiser.

We can discern between good and evil so we can go to those places, watch those things, do those things and it won’t affect us, because we know good and evil.  We won’t be caught up in it because we know the difference between good and evil.  My kids will still love God if I let them because there is no real harm in it. We can tell the difference when we are there between good and evil. We shall not surely die. You shall not surely die.

Proverbs 8:36

But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

“Me” in this verse is wisdom. We know that all wisdom comes from God. All sin goes against wisdom and thus God. All sin causes harm to our own soul. If you love death, you hate wisdom. Everyone thinks they love wisdom.  We think we are wise enough to beat death. We aren’t going to die. We are wise so we won’t let anything get out of hand. We are wise so we can handle this entertainment. We know better so the words won’t affect us. We know better we won’t go past this line. It won’t be as bad as they say it is. We can handle it. Yet the whole time we love death. And we hate wisdom. We believe we won’t surely die. The old paths aren’t as important as we were taught. We can move the landmark and there will be no problem. We know good and evil. We are like God.  It will be fine.

Proverbs 8:32-36

Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Wisdom says listen to me. If you walk in my ways, you will be blessed. Hear (obey) and the result is wisdom. Refuse to listen (obey) and the result is death. Daily doing wisdom brings blessing and life and favor. But he that sins against wisdom hurts himself. He wrongs his own soul.

If you hate wisdom, you hate instruction. It feels like you are being told what to do. You don’t like the restriction of the ways of wisdom. You believe you can handle it your way. It is inconvenient to follow wisdom. It is too hard to do it that way. We give ourselves a pass because we are not diligent (dare I say lazy) to keep wisdom’s ways.  If you don’t hear wisdom, which biblically means obey, you hate wisdom. If you hate wisdom, you love death.

I John 2:16

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Satan’s primary marketing strategy is visual.

Luke 11:34

The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness

Luke 6:45

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

The Bible teaches us that it is our eye that determines our spiritual health. What we see affects how we think and what we believe. Satan understands this and has used this effectively. Christians have traditionally abstained from worldly entertainment and strongly resisted bringing it into our homes. We have since become “wiser knowing good and evil” and brought it into our homes and leisure activity. We have reasoned that it isn’t that bad and previous generations fears were unwarranted. We ignore the warnings of the Holy Spirit and allow death packaged so well into our lives.

Revelation 22:14-15

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Whosoever loveth a lie. Whosoever maketh a lie. Do you love a lie? Do you love something that is contrary to the word of God? That is contrary to living pleasing to the Lord? There is pleasure is sin, for a season. We enjoy a good lie. We enjoy lies we tell ourselves; I mean excuses. We enjoy a good lie. I mean story, it is just a story it isn’t real. We know the movie is not real. It’s just fantasy. We know the book is not real. You aren’t really going to die.  Death isn’t what you think.  You’ll be okay. I won’t make the lie, but I sure do love the lie. You can eat that which is forbidden. It really isn’t forbidden; it is just recommended. The Lord will be just as happy either way. You aren’t going to die. You know the difference between good and evil so it won’t affect you. You aren’t going to die.

And the serpent said unto the woman ye shall not surely die.

Satan is a good marketer.

John 10:20

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
