The Royal Law

This past month we saw the passing of Queen Elizabeth.  Everywhere you turned (newspapers, online, radio) they had information on the funeral and succession plan.  It is as if everyone desires to look into the life of royalty.

The royals in England have strict rules they must abide.  When the Queen would stand, everyone must stand.  Having a meal with a royal?  If they finish eating, so do you.  They are not allowed to eat shell fish or garlic, cannot dress casually or take selfies. There are many other rules they must abide by, yet so many desire to be royalty.

Now, if you have been born again of the water and the Spirit, you are royalty.  I Peter 2:9 addresses the Church as “a royal priesthood”.  If you are a true follower of Christ in obedience to God’s Word, you are royalty.  It is a high honor to live by God’s commands.

In looking at our nation, which was founded upon Christian principles, it appears we have lost the royalty.  We have lost the reverence and respect which was held so dear in our nation.  What happened – we decided (as Megan Markle did) we do not want to be apart of the royal family.

Matthew 22:35-40

Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

When this lawyer comes to Jesus he asked what was the greatest commandment?  Jesus replied with loving God and loving your neighbour as yourself.  However, we as a people have rejected these commandments. We have lost our love for God and now are so self-centered that we have no regard for our fellow man.

However, for those who want to be in royalty, they act different.  They have a higher standard.  For those of us who choose to be apart of this royal family, let us fulfill the royal law:

James 2:8

If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well.
